ROUND 5 . The last round of the Mendip Winter Series saw another damp start with grip varying from 'yuk' to 'not too bad' by the end of the day. This was in stark contrast to the week before when, at the Serpent Test day, the grip was incredible. The highlight of the day though was the 1/8 Final. By the time that this Final was run the track was almost completely dry and the grip was pretty high. Pole man Andrew Hastings shot into the lead with the hard charging trio Ashley Groovy, Ian Milford and Kevin Taylor. The race for 2nd place turned into a 3 way tustle between Ashley, Ian and Kevin. Kevin 'just' looked to be the quickest by a nat's dooh-dah but was to be plagued by troubles with his car. Ian was not short of some teething troubles with a new motor which allowed Ash to hang on to 2nd place. 1st placed man Andrew then seemed to suffer problems of his own and drop back down the field behind our intrepid threesome. Some over excitement on the part of Mugen driver Kevin T led to Ashley's upside down Serpent in front of race control. Ashley recovered reasonably quickly to take up the charge again. Don't forget that next weekend is the Mugen Test Day. My daughter's birthday so I can't attend (I heard that Kevin !!) but see you all the following Sunday at the first of the Club Championships.
